An LVL beam can contain more than 30 individual pieces of timber. A single piece of furniture can contain hundreds. For origin verification, that complexity has historically presented a significant challenge.

However, after two years of research, Source Certain has developed a forensic method that can read every veneer within an LVL beam, enabling the species and origin of timber in complex engineered products to be independently verified.

Speaking with Wood Central, Source Certain Founder and Chief Technology Officer Cameron Scadding discusses what this development could mean for identifying high-risk timber in Australian supply chains – and why the ability to verify timber independently of its paperwork matters.

This conversation comes ahead of a joint Source Certain and Wood Central webinar on 30 September, bringing together experts from across industry, research, market intelligence and forensic science to examine the risks facing Australian timber supply chains and what can be done about them.
